Mr. Frank Samuelson,

Principal

The principal of Oxford High School is Mr. Frank Samuelson.  Raised in the Oxford community, Mr. Samuelson has been an employee of the Oxford Public Schools for many years, serving most recently as the principal of Great Oak Middle School from 1991-2005.  A tireless advocate for the new high school, Mr. Samuelson brings his knowledge of the community and his broad educational experience to bear on the unique role of being the first principal of the new Oxford High School. 
Mr. Glenn Lungarini

Assistant Principal/AD

Fulfilling the challenging dual role of assistant principal and athletic director of Oxford High School is Mr. Glen Lungarini.  A member of a former national championship baseball team, Mr. Lungarini is currently working in the Physical Education Department at Pomperaug High School.  Glen has enjoyed success in every position he has held in a career that includes coaching in basketball, soccer, and collegiate level baseball, teaching, and administration. 

Mr. Jonathan Costa,

Guiding the development of the Oxford High School curriculum and its web-based resources is Mr. Jonathan Costa.  Mr. Costa is an educational consultant from Litchfield, Connecticut. His experience is grounded in public and private high school history teaching, corporate management, and a wide range of professional development and organizational development services. Since he began consulting in 1990, Mr. Costa has learned with educators from over 125 school districts in 10 states in every possible demographic and performance profile.

Mr. Stephen Barone,

Department Chair, History and Social Studies

The Department Chair for the teachers in History and Social Studies is Mr. Stephen Barone. Mr. Barone is currently the Department Chair for History and Social Studies at the Gilbert School in Winsted, Connecticut.  A teacher with 14 years of experience, Mr. Barone will lead Oxford High School's history and social studies course development as well as our CAPT skills efforts so that every student who attends Oxford High School will have the intellectual tools they need to be successful on the CAPT test and for any other academic challenge as well. 

Ms. Jennifer Crooks,

Department Chair, Fine and Performing Arts

The Department Chair for the teachers in Fine and Performing Arts is Ms. Jennifer Crooks. Currently a musical educator in Oxford at the Great Oak Middle School, Ms. Crooks has over 10 years of professional experience.  In addition to the wonderful performances she is able to coach from her Oxford students, Ms. Crooks has received numerous recognitions for both her work as an educator and for her role as a leader and advocate for performing arts education across the state and region.  Ms. Crooks looks forward to continuing her associations with her current Great Oak Middle School students in their careers at the new Oxford High School.

Mr. Gregory Champagne,

Department Chair, Applied Technologies

The Department Chair for the teachers in Applied Technologies is Gregory Champagne. Currently the Chair of the Applied Technologies Department at Woodland Regional High School, Mr. Champagne has over 25 years of professional experience and has demonstrated his leadership, creativity, and effectiveness in each of the positions he has held over that time.  His past success not only in his classroom and leadership duties (Mr. Champagne is an innovator and has been recognized by his community and peers for his extraordinary efforts on behalf of his students) but also in helping Woodland open its new school just five years ago make Gregory a most valuable addition to the Oxford High School leadership team.

Ms. Melissa Iles,

Department Chair, Guidance

The Department Chair for Guidance Services is Ms. Melissa Iles.  Currently a guidance counselor at the Waterbury Arts Magnet School in Waterbury, Connecticut, Ms. Iles has over 16 years of guidance experience.  In addition to her service in Waterbury, she has worked in both rural and suburban settings, has extensive experience with special needs learners, and has worked with students of all ages K-12 on a variety of age-appropriate topics.  Ms. Iles is looking forward to creating a guidance and support program that will help every child succeed at Oxford High School. 

Mr. Frank LaBanca,

The Department Chair for the teachers of science is Mr. Frank LaBanca. A nationally recognized teacher for his innovative approaches and his dedication to raising performance expectations for all students, Mr. LaBanca has been a teacher for 12 years and is currently employed at Newtown High School.  Mr. LaBanca is looking forward to pioneering the use of advanced independent scientific research techniques as a vehicle for generating student interest and excellence in science.

Ms. Kelley O'Neal,

Department Chair, Language Arts

The Department Chair for the teachers of language arts is Ms. Kelley O'Neal.  Currently an education professor in Pima, Arizona, Ms. O'Neal taught in East Hartford for 13 years prior to her move west and is now looking forward to returning to her Connecticut roots.  Ms. O'Neal's  background includes high school language arts instruction, the development and implementation of the International Baccalaureate Academy curriculum and program, Connecticut's Beginning Educator Support program, and the supervision and support of student teachers.

Ms. Denise Schlesinger,

Department Chair, Special Education

The Department Chair for Special Education is Ms. Denise Schlesinger.  Currently a special education teacher in Oxford, Ms. Schlesinger has over a decade of experience in the field.  After holding positions as both a teacher and Student Development Specialist in Maryland and Florida, Ms. Schlesinger has impressed her peers in Oxford since joining the staff in 2004 and she looks forward to the challenge of creating a new team at Oxford High School.

Mrs. Margaret McCarthy Surat,

Department Chair, Mathematics

The Department Chair for the teachers of mathematics is Mrs. Margaret McCarthy Surat.  Mrs. Surat brings not only a wealth of teaching experience from both the middle and high school levels, but also career experiences from beyond the classroom as well.  Currently the Department Chair of Mathematics at Crosby High School in Waterbury, Mrs. Surat is thrilled to be joining the staff at the new Oxford High School.  Her husband Tom is a music teacher at Great Oak Middle School. 

Ms. Lorraine D. Tanner,

Department Chair, World Languages

The Department Chair for the teachers in World Languages is Mrs. Lorraine D. Tanner.  Currently the Chairperson of World Languages in Ansonia, Connecticut, Mrs. Tanner has three advanced degrees and has been teaching since 1983.  Throughout her tenure, Mrs. Tanner has served in many leadership positions both within her home districts and on a state level.  Her demonstrated success as both a student and adult educator prepares her for the unique opportunity that is Oxford High School.
