Oxford High School
Language Arts Department
The purpose of the Language Arts Department is to ensure that students develop proficiency, confidence, and fluency in reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing to meet the literacy demands of the 21st Century.
SUMMER READING!
Kelley O'Neal, Language Arts Department Chair, and the rest of
the
Language Arts staff encourage all Oxford students to read as much as
they can during the summer months.
For those enterprising students who like to get a jump on their first marking period reading, freshmen will be reading Speak and The Catcher in the Rye, and Sophomores will be reading A Separate Peace, and Stargirl, as well as one additional book of their choice from the list under marking period 1 (just click on one of the class buttons above).
Please do exercise those reading muscles over the summer; your teachers, parents and grade point averages will thank you in the fall! And for our truly reluctant readers -- you can get just as much enjoyment from listening to those books on unabridged CD ROMs while you mow the lawn, and help your parents around the house.
